The other day I was driving my youngest to school and we happened to change the radio station, one which I don't usually listen to, not because I'm not the 'demographic', rather, the announcers and their banter just don’t resonate with me. However the selection of tunes is great, my son enjoys it, so I left it on.

Geez, Louise. (Insert rolling eyes here.)

What is it about Generation Y's or Millennials, or the 'i' generation that is so fixated with age? Seriously, if I hear another 26-year-old moan that they are 'old' I seriously want to have a good talk' with their parents. This particular radio announcer on this particular day was describing how a band that formed 25 years ago decided to part ways. And his response was, well they're old, so who cares about some old band and they are too old anyhow and who wants to listen to some old dudes.

What?

Okay, I get it if you're not into the music, but seriously, his talk screamed Peter Pan syndrome (hmm wonder if he'd understand...)

Now, I'm not one to get offended, but stepping onto my philosophical soapbox, I thought, why is he going on about age? Especially that he would have a responsibility to his listeners and set a more intelligent example. Let’s just keep dividing the generations so we don't understand one another shall we?

If that were me, I would have come from the other angle, that 'hey, may not like the band, but kudos for staying together for so long, what an example that one can still keep playing together in the fickle world that is the entertainment industry, etc etc.'

Attitude. Age as they say is but a number. I've never wrestled with my age and I can proudly say that this is the golden year.

Attitude is what keeps the mind active, to learn and to keep growing. To be open, to not allow negativity or toxic people into your life. I would hope that if people have the right attitude then things would be different - regardless of your age.

A poll was recently sent around on FB asking the question: What would you choose, be 18 again or have $50million.

We all took the money, not just because of the obvious. But the fact that if we were to go back in time to 18, how would we live the life we've enjoyed and given birth to the wonderful human beings we are blessed to call our own? Those old 'dudes' were probably so excited to start another chapter in their life, that they didn't want to waste one more day. And the reflection in the mirror was not of how many years spent on this earth, but of how many more to come.

For those who complain about getting old. Stop. Either jump in or move aside.
